If you would like your book reviewed by me and posted on this blog, please read and follow these guidelines.
I review these types of books: Fantasy, Paranormal, Science Fiction, Poetry, Mysteries, Historical Fiction, Historical Non-Fiction and some other Non-Fiction. I will also consider reviewing General Fiction and Romance. I usually do not review Women's Fiction, Political/Action Thrillers, or Young Adult, but I occasionally make exceptions if the book catches my interest.
I do not review Self-Help or Children's Books.
If you want your book reviewed, please email a request complete with the title of the book, your author name, a blurb or a description of the book, to afstewartauthor@gmail.com and I will generally respond within a week. Put the word "review" in the subject line. I will need you to send either a link to an online excerpt or attach an excerpt of the book (1-3 chapters) to your email, but do not send a copy of the book. I accept print copies to review and I prefer ebooks in the epub format. I also accept PDF copies only if the book is approximately 200 pages or less and I will occasionally accept Word Documents. I will review self-published books, as well as more traditional publishers.
Pay Attention Now: I am now accepting ebooks in the Kindle format, conditionally. If your book is only available in Kindle I will accept that format. But be warned, since I only have the Kindle app for the computer you may have to wait longer for the book to be reviewed (it takes me longer to read a book from the computer).
Posting the Reviews: I post reviews to both Amazon.ca (the one in Canada) and to Amazon.com. I also post to this blog (my blog auto posts to Twitter, Facebook and other place so the review gets shared around) and Goodreads, plus Barnes and Noble and Smashwords if listed. And sometimes to Librarything and other places if I find the time. (Note: if your book is listed on Smashwords, please mention that in your emails. In order to post a review there, I will need to download the free review copy from that site).
Some notes on how I review a book:
I review books on their own merit and genre. For instance, if the book is light sci-fi, I'll review as such, and I will most likely refrain from commenting on the feasibility of the science unless it is totally ridiculous. Again, if the book is aimed at women or a romance, I'm not likely to complain it was too maudlin. I will occasionally comment that a book is targeted at a specific audience.
I will dissect the book's structure, grammar, character portayal and plotline and I will comment on both the strengths and weaknesses to provide a fair, well-rounded review, so be prepared for possible constructive criticism.
Also, most books I review are provided free of charge by the author, but all books are reviewed equally.
