Drabble Wednesday: Something Wicked Comes This Fae

Today Drabble Wednesday belongs to the Dark Fae…

The Old Path

Shall I tell you a story?
Whisper it in your ear?
Of the faeries you sought, of fair Oberon and Titania? Shall I sing a song of faerie circles in the woods, and immortal creatures who dance?
No. They are all lies.
In truth, the Fae are dark and cruel hunters, and you should not have come looking for our kind. But I believe you know that, trussed as you are, and offered up like the fattened pig.
What will happen now, you ask?
Well, my poor little seeker, you will bleed, and you will die, and we will feast.

Superstitions

His footsteps crunched the autumn leaves along the trail as he wandered the shadowy forest, and the mist-covered hill country. The sun settled past the horizon, and exchanged kisses with dusk, but his flashlight shone through the gloom.
He smiled, remembering the warnings.
“The hills aren’t a place you want to go at night.”
“That place will play tricks.”
“It’s bad luck to go there after dark. The faerie live in those woods.”
He chuckled.
Such fools, with their cautions.
As if he didn’t already know. Hadn’t the faerie, his kin, sent him to choose the mortals they would harvest.

Faerie Song

In the black depth of night, as the moonlight plays, and the mist it swirls in gentle greys, I’ll sing my song to turn her head, and lure the lass from her warm, soft bed. She’ll yield to my call, and leave kith and kin, she’ll dance in my arms, succumb to my grin. She’ll tread the path blazed in my wake, and give me everything I wish to take.
From these mortal worlds we’ll steal away, oh, I’ll lead the girl far and well astray. She’ll end her days in my wicked abode, lost forever down the Unseelie road.

Festival of Drabbles: Discord and Harmony

And we come to our farewell post for this wondrous Festival of Drabbles. I shall play you out with a bit of a dark melody…

Rime and Season

The frost wind swirled down from the mountain, and the icicles hanging from the trees chimed with its passing. It blew down the cobblestone streets, and around the corners and cracks of brick and mortar. It rattled the wooden shutters and howled down the chimneys. It churned the snow drifts and swooshed about the settled grime.
Nothing else moved in the quiet, solemn town.
Nothing else would ever move in this place again.
They occupied each house, every structure. While the wind howled, while the snow blew, the dead remained. Frozen, lifeless, forever locked in an eternal world of ice.

Desert Song

Across the sands, beyond the dunes, when the Mother of Moons rises in the night sky, you can hear their song on the sirocco winds. A velvet melody vibrating through the amber radiance, twirling in the light of the desert moon. They sing arias, of roses blooming in the paradise oasis, of the first raindrop and its petrichor echo. Their chorus shivers the firmament that binds the universe, and soothes the disquieted fires of the soul.
They serenade of all things sacred, but beware, listen too long…
…and the Night Sisters will sing you to your final place of dreams.

Just An Old Tune

The guitar sits in the corner, weather-beaten, with dust gathering across its worn down varnish and strings. It has some scratches and some blackened streaks; it has survived much. Countless hands have plucked it chords—old and young--through wars, through blistering summers, and long cold winters. It has strummed many a tune, and captured the vivacity of spirits in the melodies it harmonized.
Spirits it never let go.
Sorry souls that bled their happiness into the hungry maw of a demon instrument. And now… well that guitar, it’s waiting to be played.
By the next servant of the devil.

#CoffinHop Day 8: A Halloween of Villains

On this, the last day of Coffin Hop, I present to you a little song I composed. Just don't ask me to sing, it won't be pretty.

This one is for the geeks…

This ditty is to be sung as a duet, with one singer crooning in the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas style, and the other doing spoken asides of the words in brackets. The first line should be sung together, and the last two lines are to be spoken.

On the Dark Eve of Halloween, my true love gave to me...

Twelve Trolls Fighting (Over who gets the last holiday cookie)
Eleven Witches Brewing (And it wasn’t coffee)
Ten Lords a-Sithing (Sithing, really? That’s not even a word. They’re Sith Lords; it’s a title)
Nine Nazgul Riding (Run, Frodo, Run)
Eight Wicked Pirates (Sorry, no Captain Jack Sparrow)
Seven Zombies a-Snacking (Brains! Braaains!)
Six Borgs assimilating (Resistance is futile)
Five Golden Dragons (A hot time in the old town tonight)
Four Arkham Escapees (Batman’s got his hands full)
Three A.I.’s (It’s HAL, the Matrix, and Skynet)
Two Malicious Mutants (Call the X-Men, quick!)
And an Evil Queen with an Apple (Poisoned, of course)

I'm going to need more room on my collectables shelf (you got that right).

For more scary stuff on this last day, scroll down for the list of Coffin Hoppers, and don't forget to enter the Rafflecopter contest, it’s your final chance. Winners of all the contests will be announced tomorrow.
